MINI LESSON
Function Notation
Function notation describes how each input is assigned exactly one output.
The notation f(x) means the output of the function when x is substituted into the rule.
To evaluate a function, replace the variable with the given value and simplify carefully.
Sometimes you are given an output and must work backward to solve for the input value.
Question 1
If g(x) = -2x^2 + 16, then g(-3) equals
Question 2
Given the function g(x) = \(\frac{2x+3}{x^2-2}\), what is the value of g(-2)?
Question 3
If f(x) = \(\frac{-3x-5}{2}\), what is the value of x when f(x) = -22?
Question 4
Given g(x) = x^3 + 2x^2 - x, what is the value of g(-3)?
Question 5
If f(x) = \(\frac{30x^2}{x+2}\), determine the value of f\(\frac{1}{2}\).
