MINI LESSON

Modeling Expressions

A polynomial is an expression made of terms added or subtracted together.

The degree of a term is the exponent on its variable, and the degree of a polynomial is the greatest exponent in the expression.

A constant term has no variable attached to it.

Standard form lists polynomial terms from greatest exponent to least exponent.

Question 1

What is the degree of the polynomial \(2x-x^2+4x^3\)?

Question 2

What is the constant term of the polynomial \(2x^3-x+5+4x^2\)?

Question 3

Which trinomial is written in standard form and has a constant term of five?

Question 4

A student creates a fourth-degree trinomial with a leading coefficient of 2 and a constant value of 5. The trinomial could be

Question 5

Which expression has a degree of 3 and a leading coefficient of 2?
