MINI LESSON

Writing Linear Equations

A linear equation can be written in point-slope form or slope-intercept form.

Point-slope form is \(y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\).

If two points are given, first find the slope using \(\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\).

Then substitute the slope and one point into the equation.

Question 1

What is an equation of the line that passes through \((3,7)\) and has a slope of 2?

Question 2

What is an equation of the line that passes through the points \((2,7)\) and \((-1,3)\)?

Question 3

Which equation represents the line that passes through the points \((-1,8)\) and \((4,-2)\)?
