MINI LESSON
Quadratic–Linear Systems
A quadratic–linear system contains one quadratic equation and one linear equation.
The solutions to the system are the points where the line and the parabola intersect.
A quadratic–linear system may have zero, one, or two solutions depending on how the graphs intersect.
Question 1
Consider the system of equations y = x² − 4 and y = x. How many solutions does the system have?
Question 2
Which equation results from substituting y = x into the quadratic equation y = x² − 4 to solve the system?
